Hepatitis C Virus Antibodies among Pregnant Women and Neonates

Abstract
Hepatitis C virus antibodies were soughted with second generation enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (Abbot HCV EIA kit) in 10,731 cases which are composed of pregnant women, neonates and others. Results are as follows.
1. Anti-hepatitis C virus antibodies were detected in 0.95% of pregnant women and 59.5% of neonates.
2. Among HBs Ag negative patients, Anti-HBc positive cases are more than Anti-HBc negative cases.
3. The history of transfusion was 4% (3/70) of pregnant and 45%(27/60) of neonates in Anti-HCV positive group.
4. Only 5 neonates born to Anti-HCV Ab positive mothers showed Anti-HCV Ab positive result.
